Day 5

ついにサハラ砂漠、最後の朝です。
一歩、一歩、歩いて来たけど、この道がずっと続いていればいいなあ、と思いました。この広大な砂漠にはゴールなんてありません。自分が設定しない限り。

一歩一歩がゴールで、喜びでした。

Finally, the last morning in the Sahara Desert. I’ve walked step by step, and I couldn’t help but wish that this path would continue. In this vast desert, there is no predefined goal unless you set it yourself.

Each step was the goal, and it brought me joy.

It brought a sense of certainty to me.

最後の日も、モスバーのパン作りで朝が始まります。

Even on the last day, the morning starts with Mosbah’s bread-making.

パンはたいてい毎朝、砂の上で焼いてくれます。

They usually bake bread every morning on the sand.

そして焼きたてのパンを、コーヒーといっしょに朝ごはんに頂きます。
外はかりっと、中はふわっと、食べ始めると手が止まりません。

And then, we enjoy the freshly baked bread with coffee for breakfast. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Once you start eating, it’s hard to stop.

再び熾火と砂でパンに蓋をして焼くんです。これがサハラ流。

Once again, covering the bread with charcoal and sand to bake. This is the Sahara way

モスバーのパン焼きの様子は、途中までしか撮っていなかったので、数日前の夕方に焼いてくれた時の、これまた切れ切れになっていた撮影と組み合わせて載せています。夜のパン焼きは熾火が光って、宝石箱の中のよう。

I only captured part of Mosbah’s bread baking process, so I combined it with footage from a few days ago when he baked in the evening. The night bread baking is illuminated by the glowing charcoals, it looked like inside of a jewel box.

地平線に、オアシスの緑の線が見えてきました。

オアシスに到着。

この時期、たくさんのデーツが実っています。

At this time of the year, many dates are ripening.

オアシスに入って行くと、一番にラクダの水飲み場が。

As you enter the oasis, the first thing you see is the watering spot for camels.

一緒に歩いてくれて、本当に、本当に、ありがとう。おつかれ様。

ラクダ使いのモスバーと、ナサールとはここでお別れ。この後二人は、私たちが五日かけて来た道を、三日で戻るらしいです。この二人のおかげで旅はとても快適で、楽しいものでした。砂漠の真ん中で生まれたモスバー、休みの日にも家族で砂漠に来て過ごすというナサールも、砂漠は彼らにとって庭のようなもの。

迷いなく砂漠を進んでいく彼らを、ずっと不思議な気持ちで見ていました。

次に来るときには12日間はいなきゃね、そうしたら砂漠のことをもっと知ることができるよ、と言われました。

We bid farewell to the camel drivers, Mosbah and Nassar, here. After this, the two of them are planning to return the same path we took in three days, a journey that took us five days. Thanks to these two, the journey was incredibly comfortable and enjoyable. Mosbah, born in the middle of the desert, and Nassar, who brings his family to spend time in the desert even on days off, view the desert as their own backyard.

I watched them confidently navigate the desert with a sense of wonder.

They told me, ‘When you come next time, you should stay for at least 12 days. That way, you can get to know the desert even more
